minecraft is damaged

i try to download minecraft on my mac but when i open it my computer says mine craft is damaged and cannot be opened the in browser playing does not work either. ive had minecraft for a few years now and it worked on my old mac but i got a new one during the holidays and when i try to redownload it does not work.
