Starting game on MacOS seems to download large unnecessary files

On MacOS  13.1. when starting minecraft 1.19.3 it often happens that some very large file(s) are downloaded which takes a very long time especially without access to fast internet connection (total duration including cleanup: ca. 15 minutes). 

Since this seem to happen about twice a week this is a very blocking performance issue.

Maybe a new snapshot is downloaded, or the entire game again , but it does not change anything with the actual gameplay. 

This performance issue should be investigated and fixed.
