1.6.4 and older versions can't be played/opened

Before the latest minecraft launcher update (See Below)...

Myself and other people could play older versions of minecraft (Mainly for mods), but since the latest update minecraft won't open and will say, "Sorry, unable to start Minecraft".

Not much else to say but here are screenshots of other people reporting the same problem.
