cant set username for minecraft java edition in launcher

i bougt a copy of minecraft over the microsoft store and downloaded the launcher and the games. when i started the launcher and presst play i was told to select a username, wich i did. but every time i click confirm nothing happens. i already tried to set my username via the minecraft website but that also dindt work.
