CurseForge Minecraft Launcher Downloads Files Every Time It's Launched
Simply launching a fresh version of a Forge based Java Minecraft instance for the first time (As in, the first time the launcher was opened since it was last closed), the launcher will proceed to download a ~20-21MB file every single time, unless the launcher is left open between instances of actually clicking the "PLAY" button.
What I expected to happen was...:
The launcher should have all prepared files ready to boot up Java Minecraft every time I want to play, and no update has been issued to the game, or the launcher.
What actually happened was...:
The launcher decides to download files every time it is opened, even if that's 20 times a day.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open launcher
2. Press Play, files download.
3 Completely close all instances of the launcher.
4. Repeat.
Additional Info...
Doing some looking around, I can tell you that my CurseForge system (That's literally everything involving it) is from before Overwolf acquired it, so it's still under the Twitch folder in the Users folder. However, I have managed to narrow down what file it is likely downloading every time (maybe).
If I go to /Users/<user>/Twitch/Minecraft/Install/ and search for "." ("asterisk.asterisk") and sort the results by recently updated, I can see files that the launcher is modifying under that directory.
It will do the "update" process and download that ~20MB file, but it only does it once, so I can remove files that are about that size and see what it requests to download IF the launcher is never closed between doing these tests. It seems to acquire the Forge version and modifying nothing else.
I can't guarantee that this is the exact cause, but this has been happening for over a year now, and completely reinstalling everything (deleting everything from that /<user>/Twitch/Minecraft/ directory excluding the Instances folder) doesn't resolve the issue. It seemed to at first, but if you install a modern version of the game, and a 1.12.2 version at least, (I also have 1.18.1, 1.16.5, 1.8.9 and 1.7.10 installed) the issue seems to keep coming back. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's a bug with the launcher, or an issue with having multiple versions of the game installed through CurseForge, additionally I don't know if this is even the proper way to report this bug. Sorry if it's not, I have no idea where to report it otherwise.
