Cannot log in to Minecraft launcher on Mac

I cannot login, it gives me the error: "Something went wrong in the login process. If the problem persists, check your internet connection." I have contacted Mojang about this and I keep getting given solutions for Windows, even though I have clearly stated it is for Mac. I was given a link to a bug thread about this in the last email, and having checked it the bug thread has been closed as resolved due to the Xbox app solution, but Mac users cannot install the Xbox software, so this issue is not resolved. I have paid money for a service that I cannot use and would like to know that Mojang will offer a serious solution, otherwise will be seeking a refund.
