Launcher doesn't update the download state of an Minecraft version

When you select 'keep the launcher open' in the edit profile menu, and then play a Minecraft version for the first time (still has to download), it says correctly 'Ready to download & play Minecraft <version>'.
But when you then download and open the game, the launcher still says 'Ready to download & play Minecraft <version>'. But the version is already downloaded.
