(Mac) Launcher crashes upon attempting to update

Upon clicking on the icon the launcher wont open, it loads for a split second and then crashes without a crash message. After a long while of searching for the problem and rebooting my computer twice, I decided to try one more thing before reinstalling the game completely and risking losing my worlds, which was opening it directly from the terminal using this command (open -a /Applications/Minecraft.app --args --skipUpdate). This worked and got my launcher working. The game said there was a new update and I needed to restart the launcher to open it which I tried to do; which once again wouldn't work. The only way i can get the launcher to open is through said command which skips the update. I recently updated my OS to Monterey 12.4 and since then this issue has occurred.
