my minecraft 1.3.9 whenever the game launches it crashes

What I expected to happen was...: the game to start up.
Describe what you thought should happen here- it should take my to the menu of single player and multiplayer

What actually happened was...: upon pressing the play button the game crashes right after.
Describe what happened here..... it gives me a report and says it will notify of the problem.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Put a step by step guide on how to trigger the bug here..... click the icon
2. ...wait for it to open up
3. ... press the play option in the launcher and it crashes
