launcher wont launch linux (pop!_os)

the launcher wont launch idk what laucher version it is but a update screen shows and than crashes/closes

What I expected to happen was...:
I was trying to see if i could add the line -Dlog4j2.formatMsgNoLookups=true to my jvm but the laucher just wouldn't lauch

What actually happened was...:
when i started the launcher i saw an update screen that went away and when I launched it  trough the command line it got this

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install pop os (idk if its distro depended) 
2. install the laucher trough the minecraft site
3. try to open the laucher (this is where it goes wrong for me)
