Bug with some Pillagers

We were playing as any other normal night and suddenly we decided we wanted to attack a tower of pillagers that was close to our house, so we prepared and go without knowing what was waiting for us.

 
We started good, we killed the Pillagers, we took the tower and we saw that there was a pillager left. Whitout any fear, we killed him but we realized that more pillagers where spawning, after some time fighting, we found out that they wouldn't stop spawning everywhere and we started to get frustrated because of the lag and many game overs.
 
So, maybe we are over reacting but this is the first time that this happens to us, believe me! there where at least 50 pillagers, i'm not exagerating, we literally got so frustrated that i put on creative and started killing them with an netherite sword, they had so much life and kept spawning, the lag didn't helped at all, it teleported us in front of all those pillagers and we had nothing to do but trying to escape from that frickin bucle, we gave up but we are curious for what happened, so ye, that's it, thanks for reading
