Legacy account cannot access game via launcher

I have logged into the Mincraft Launcher on MacOS with my Legacy Minecraft account. Support told me I should use the username to login, even though the Launcher presents an "email" input field. After I logged in, I see the error message in the screenshot.

Is there any way to use my legacy account to play the game? Thank you for your help!
