Just purchased and downloaded Minecraft for my personal Laptop and launcher is erroring out.

When trying to access Minecraft: Java Edition from my home computer I get the screen: "Whoops! Sorry, something went terribly wrong and you probably encountered a bug." I just purchased the Java edition of Minecraft this evening and this is my first time logging in to the program.
