My game won't start and says "something went terribly wrong please try again".

When I tried to open Minecraft today, it displayed a message saying "Whoops! Sorry, something went terribly wrong and you probably encountered a bug." This message showed up after the first time downloaded. I opened the application from finder. When I click try again, it displays the same message again with no delay.
