Minecraft Will Not Let Me Launch

When I go in to launch the game, it just appears with a message stating that "Whoops!  Sorry, something went terribly wrong and you probably encountered a bug.  Please file a report here (with here being on the site now)."

 

I just downloaded the launcher on my PC, and I'm confused to why this is happening.  I saw that this is happening to a lot of users with the recent update.
