Can't update from legacy launcher

I deleted my launcher.profiles.json trying to fix a problem with my Minecraft launcher not opening. It did but it also changed my Minecraft launcher version. I tried searching google but nothing worked. I tried restarting my computer, restarting the launcher, trying to use task manager to eliminate a background process, reinstalling Minecraft 5 times, using my friend's launcher.profile.json file, but nothing works. When I tried the last thing, it can detect its from a newer launcher version but it never gives me the option to update my current launcher.
