I cannot open my minecraft launcher

when I try to open my Minecraft launcher it says that it is updating. I decided to leave it to update overnight. I come back the next morning and the bar has not moved. I cannot access my launcher and I have checked that there are no viruses. so please help me fix my Minecraft
