Launcher uses more resources than it should

The Minecraft Launcher has recently started to use up lots of my computer's resources.
The moment I open it, in task manager, my disk usage jumps to 100%.

It started doing this after shortly after the news below the play button was introduced, and due to this, has become almost unusable. 

I doubt it's an issue with my computer, as I can run Minecraft: Java Edition at a smooth 120 frames per second. No other program on my computer uses up as much disk as the Minecraft launcher does.
