Minecraft Launcher will not start up

After updating my computer and redownloading Minecraft about a dozen times, I still cannot get my Minecraft launcher to start on my MacBook. Every time I force quit it, it still says "application not responding" the next time I open it. I have also tried restarting my computer a few times and the outcome is the same, not sure what to do
