Minecraft Launcher Freezes during launch

When I select play on the minecraft launcher, it starts to launch and gets stuck on the red Mojang screen, the progress bar goes about 80% of the way and stops there.  Task Manager can not shut it down and the only way to get back out is to shut off the computer.
