Minecraft doesn't show up in the launcher.

I can launch Minecraft with the windows menu but when I try to launch it through the Minecraft launcher. Some problems I have because of this is that I cannot play on some servers and I can't download mods. It still asks me if I want to buy Minecraft even though I obviously already have it.
