Mac launcher stuck halfway through a 1mb update but only for 1.16.4

I'm trying to open the game, but when I click "PLAY" an update appears and instantly jumps up to 539kb out of 1mb and stays there until giving me an error message. I've tried logging out and back in, making a new installation of 1.16.4, but neither worked. I'm on mac OS btw
