Changing skin not working when using a Microsoft account

I sign in to my Microsoft account for the first time in minecraft.net and buy the game. I download my favorite skin from the website and tried to apply it, then loading it into a new world and my skin does not appear. It only shows Alex skin. Please respond and fix it.
