Unable to make custom installations

After the launcher updated to the current version, not only did it remove all non vanilla installations, (optifine, Forge, etc.) i am also unable to make any more new ones, if i create a new installation and select a non vanilla version once i hit save the installation simply doesnt show up.

What I expected to happen was...:
being able to play the optifine version i had been playing for weeks

What actually happened was...:
i was unable to start an optifine version of minecraft

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install optfine/forge
2. select the non vanilla version when making a new installation
3. it never shows up
