The new Minecraft launcher does not allow me to use 1.12.2 forge

On opening the new launcher and trying to find the 1.12.2 forge installation I had, I could not find it. I created a new installation of forge and when I created it, it disappeared! I want the ability to use 1.12.2 forge, but the Minecraft launcher won't let me
