Problem with loading Java and skins in multiplayer

When i try and load java with the launcher the launcher causes it to freeze. Therefore after using the launcher to start loading java i must use my task manager to force close the launcher in order for java to finish loading and boot up. If i do not do this java wont load. 

This dilemma then causes me not to see skins in the Minecraft server i am a part of, both my own skin and others. They just appear as Steve's and Alex's and it is a bit infuriating! If you could solve this it would be fantastic.

I am using an Omen Gaming laptop however it still runs Minecraft incredibly well.
