Whenever I try to break a block on my current Windows 10 HP Laptop, It gives me the block instead of breaking it.

One day, I download Minecraft onto this computer because it isn't working on my other one. I create a new world. Survival mode. Once I do this, I go to a jungle and try to break an oak tree. It doesn't break it. Instead, it gives me the block to place anywhere else. I can place the block, though. I switch to creative mode, to see if it has any effect. Same thing. Please fix this glitch so that it will be fair to me so I can play this game! I'm a huge fan! Thank you very much!
