Minecraft launcher won't launch on fresh Ubuntu 20.04 install (consider snap package?)

On a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 install the minecraft launcher appears to enter an infinite loop and never opens when launched. This does however work when using the following snap package https://snapcraft.io/mc-installer

Maybe Mojang should consider distributing the Linux version as a snap file in order to reduce the amount of incompatibility complaints received?
