Sorry! Make sure you are online and try again

Just purchased and dowloaded minecraft Java Edition and i cannot play online. When I log into my account i get the message "Sorry! Make sure you are online and try again"

I've reinstalled Minecraft, Allowed it in the firewall, tried multiple internet connections. Not sure what else I can do. I just want to play with my friends.

Edit: Checked for incompatible software and none apply.
