Minecraft version 1.12.2 keeps crashing

I was just minding my business playing on a server on 1.15.2 but it was laggy and it suggested I play on 1.12.2. So I exited Minecraft 1.15.2 and went to download 1.12.2 which wasn't downloaded on this specific computer before. When it was downloading it said it was only downloading 10MB, not the usual 100MB+ but I just ignored it since it was an older version of Minecraft. I go to play it but it just crashes. Tried it three times. Still crashed. I uninstalled the Minecraft launcher and removed the .Minecraft folder and reinstalled it with the .deb file I had from before. I try to play 1.12.2 which said it downloaded 100MB+ but still crashed. pls help me :/

edit: same problem for 1.8 (I might just reset my PC :/ )
