Minjecraft Java Launcher Crashes When Selecting "Play" Button

I am trying to run Minecraft: Java Edition, however when I select the "Play" button the launcher crashes unexpectedly and Minecraft is not launched. No crash message is displayed and I have uninstalled and redownloaded the launcher twice now. Please help.
