Ram not saved

I play a lot of modded Minecraft so it is necessary for me to change the amount of ram which is allocated to the game. However every time I log back into the launcher the ram settings were not saved from the last time I changed them despite hitting the save button. I am not the only person I know that has this issue, in fact every person I know that plays modded Minecraft seems to have this problem. I assumed it was a bug so I waited a while before saying anything but this has been going on for over a year now with no change.
