Minecraft Launcher multiplayer breaks internet

Whenever I launch the new launcher, it's fine. When I go to multiplayer though, the servers are usually down because the internet stops working in the multiplayer tab. I can usually connect again by restarting the router, but even then, i only have a few seconds before the internet gets knocked out again. This doesn't happen when I play any other games, and it's kinda annoying. I'm not sure it's because of the new launcher, but i never had this problem with the old launcher.
