I have been trying to launch Minecraft but it keeps giving me an error

Failed to load URL mojang://java-launcher/index.html with error ERR_FAILED (-2).

 

this is the link that keeps popping up whenever I try to launch Minecraft. I have reinstalled it several times and deleted all old Minecraft related files.  This is on my Mac OS Java version
