Minecraft quit unexpectedly

I just bought minecraft and im trying to open the launcher for the first time on my mac Os sierra running 10.12.6 . i move the .dmg to my applications folder and everytime i try and i open it, i get a message saying minecraft launcher quit unexpectedly. Ive tried re downloading it and nothing seems to work.
