Launcher fails to launch game and then incorrectly claims that the game is already running

When I open the launcher and press 'Play' for the first time, the launcher closes and nothing happens.

Upon opening the launcher and pressing 'Play' again, the above warning appears.

I've restarted multiple times and it keeps happening. Also cleared the task in task manager and again it still happens.

Also, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game and that does not work.

Any ideas?
