Minecraft Launcher says im offline

when I opened the launcher I noticed that it said I was offline so I tried reconnecting it several times but it never did connect. I tried restarting multiple times and logged out to see if that would help and now I cant even log back in. it keeps saying sorry, make sure your online and try again. even though my computer is connected.
