username wont update?

i have had this bug once or twice before. i tried to change my username, and it said it was successfully changed. i opened the Minecraft launcher, and it still showed my old username. currently, if i try to join a multiplayer world, it kicks me out. if i join a singleplayer world, then it works. again, this happened to me couple times previously, and im still not sure why it happens.
