Minecraft crashes while rendering environment (both single player and multiplayer). Version 1.14.4 works for single player

Versions 1.9 and 1.9.2 crash while rendering environment (both single player and multiplayer). Version 1.14.4 works for single player, but the server I am trying to connect to does not yet support that version (so that is not a workaround for me).  When I click on the button to view the crash report, nothing happens.

 

Also I am not sure about the version of the minecraft launcher I am using (I know that I have minecraft versions 1.9, 1.9.2 and 1.14.4 installed)  How do I find the version of the launcher?  I presume it is fairly new, as I just purchased the product a few weeks ago.
