"Sorry! Make sure you are online and try again"

Launcher can't see the internet connection. Upon opening and providing username and password it gives the message "Sorry! Make sure you are online and try again". This the java edition running on a debian linux machine. It used to work before upgrading to the latest minecraft java version. Log file attached
