Minecraft Launcher crashes

Sincerest apologies, never been on here before,so this is all completely new to me,  just bought the Java edition for my daughter's birthday and the launcher crashes at about 80-90%. Not able to get the game on at all. Tried re-starting computer, uninstalling & re-installing Minecraft. Also tried turning off my firewalls, to no avail.
