Minecraft crashes on the Mojang logo

When pushing play the mojang logo appears and it loads until about 80% then the program does not respond. No amount of waiting makes the game work again. I recently just bought minecraft and this is the first time loading it so i do not know what changed to cause this. I have reinstalled both minecraft and java to no avail.
