Java(TM) platform SE binary has stopped working

Every time I try and start-up Minecraft, it crashes and it says that 'Java (TM) platform SE binary' has stopped working. Is this because I installed incorrectly? I had played the game a years ago and it worked fine. I tried repairing my MInecraft file and downloaded the latest version of Java, as well as updating my graphics and none has worked. Is my file corrupted?
