trying to download app to mac, get this in webpage Failed to load URL mojang://launcher/index.html with error ERR_FAILED (-2)

i got a new laptop and i am trying to download the application. evertime i try and launch it from my application screen i get this error in a new window 

Failed to load URL mojang://launcher/index.html with error ERR_FAILED (-2)

 

i have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and i still cannot get it to launch.
