Unable to update native launcher

I can't open my single player world, because of message: "Unable to update native launcher".
I reported this on minecraft.net, but Nova "inkycatz" Barlow (Microsoft (Minecraft)) answered:

Before you try to redirect me to "the community", please consider:

• I am not a member of a server, so discord is not an option (can't send messages)
• I bought this game directly from Mojang, not from "the community"

Steps I have taken:
-disabling anti-virus
-uninstalling and an attempt to reinstall, though then I get the same error message
-uninstalling, downloading Minecraft.exe, though then I get the same error message
-updating java
