Bottom half of skybox turns black when flying into unloaded chunks (+crash)

I was flying in creative and because my laptop is slow the chunks hadn't loaded in properly. In previous versions of the game the game would pause for a few seconds and load in the chunks. In this version however, the bottom half of the skybox turned black and the game crashed.
