Crafted End Crystals vs. Summoned ones

Whenever you summon a End Crystal using /summon EnderCrystal and break it, it blows up above, and below the crystal.. Now if you place the craftable one, and break it, it only blows up above/at the level of the crystal, but not at the level of the Obsidian/Bedrock...

Is this an intended feature?
