Lead breaks if moving up a block

Animals do not seem to want to be pulled by a lead up a single block. I see several lead bug reports about random breaks. For me it is consistently breaking no matter how slow I move, trying to pull the animal a single block. After reaching the break point the lead breaks.

So far leads have not been usable for any transporting in elevation gain.
