Music overlaps when using playsound

When I use the command "/playsound minecraft:music.credits music @p ~ ~ ~" the normal game music still plays after a while (game mode creative if that matters)

I assumed since the source was set to music that the normal music would not play until the current music was over.

Is this intended?

It is very inconvenient for map making.
