TNT hit damage

both me and my friend have found an issue that TNT is no longer causing damage to the player, which is an issue for us because we are both in the process of creating an adventure map in which we need this functional. Idk if it's because were building the map with creative, but we are testing it in survival, so that should not be an issue. We tried standing next to a piece of lit TNT and all we got was fall damage...
